Was reading the latest motor mag and came across some interesting times, the 5.4lt SOHC is suppose to be able to take it to a stock Gen3, consider the facts
Holden Statesman with Gen3
225kw @ 5000rpm
460nm @ 4400rpm
weight as tested 1735kg
power to weight 7.7kg/kw
0-100 6.78
400mt 14.83
now compare that to
Ford Fairmont Ghia with SOHC 5.4lt
220kw @4750rpm
470nm @3250rpm
weight as tested 1775kg
power to weight 8.07kg/kw
0-100 7.4
400mts 15.21
Sure is weighs more and has less power but the max torque comes on alot lower in the rev range. Line these two up and you wouldnt get a chance to see which way the Stato went.
It just hits home again that ANYTHING with a Gen3 badge on the side might be an oil burner but whatever you do choose your vehicle very carefully if you want to have a go at it.
look at the under 38k SV8 with its 6.05 0-100 and 14.03 1/4 miles, hell thats faster in a straight line than anything in the Ford lineup!
I know there is alot more to a car than going fast in a straight line but the fact remains if you want a cheap fast car that is a hell of alot of fun to drive than you cant look past a Holden with a Gen3.

Sorry Holden Boys.
When talking about cars i NEVER EVER say one car looks better than the other because its just not true, in styling there are no right or wrong answers, everyone has different tastes. I always say in my opinion this car looks better than that car. You got to remember that is your opinion, it is not shared by everyone. If i said that i prefer calais over xt would that make me right? no, that would be my oppinion. Are you kidding about the power comment? You arnt a real car enthusiast if you buy looks over performance, some people call that rice! with me its 60% performance 40% looks.

And umm, how does the statesman handel? I'd bet my left nut that the Fairmont handles alot sweeter.

Just what sorta person is gunna buy a fairmont/fairlane to run at Calder or Willowbank on a Sat night? Does ANYONE really think the buyer that this car is aimed for gives a rats about 1/4 mile times?
I can't believe people still consider the gen3 after all the reports about it's oil burning antics. Hell even the V6 is way below par and always has been. Last good commodore was the VL.
Wake up people!!!
I was a holden fan through and through, but I don't want to spend my money on an oil burning, tyre scrubbing, poor build quality bag of sh*t. Falcon is the car that is the benchmark for local cars and anyone who buys a holden commodore gets what they pay for...CRAP!!!
Sorry, but I can't believe people still like and defend these things.
