we had the 50km in built up areas introduced last year i think and to be honest you dont really notice the difference once you get used to it.
it only applies in built up housing type areas not major roads.
and where i live there is always little kids riding out onto the road on bikes and running out after balls etc and i had a very close call a while ago where a kid ran straight out from behind fences and i only just stoped. i was doing under 50km
kids seem to have a habit of freezing when they see a car heading straight at them if he had kept going he would have been clear of me anyway.
whether youre in the wrong or not how would you feel if you killed or injured a young kid?
I think that the rules should be 60 every where (except higher areas of course)
but 25 if kids are visible like with school areas.
I always slow down when ever I see kids.
If the government taught common bloody sence I wouldn't have to get slowed down.

What's the difference between going 10km/hr slower in a suburban street? Haha, I can't talk, I still do 60 most of the time, but they've put some bigger roads at 50 here in Melbourne, and it's a bit annoying. Having said that, I slow down below 50 when there are kids or anyone around for that matter anyway.

Hmmm, get your wallet out. I didnt realise the SA government was in deficeit as well as Victorias.
50 in built up areas is common sense, and around kids, essential.
But can guarantee you that shiney new 50kph speed signs are not the only new things you will see in your streets. The appearance of these is normally followed closely by the appearance of speed cameras, and radar traps. They seem to attract each other.....
yep well the speed cameras will result in a new Artillary grade body kit being fitted to my car so as to disable these foes.
Look's like i'll need my turbo setup just to lug the 8tonne body kit around.

Sydney has had 50k in suburban areas for some time. I drive 32k to work and pass through 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90k speed zones and this does not include those mobile 40k limits when buses are stopped (which I note everyone ignores).
This is all within city limits and quite frankly bloody ridiculous. Heaven help any visitor to the area. With the density of Sydney's traffic and all the advertising, road advisory and other bullshit signs spread around our road sides it is so easy to miss a speed limit change sign.
We have 50k's in most our local towns out here in the sticks .........
I think its a good idea for the kids sake.........
Its a bugger when your car doesnt like it but as has been said how would you feel if you actually hit a child..........
Kids dont only hang around schools you know
We have plenty of areas where you can open up a bit but please remember to protect our kids........50k's an hour isnt going to make you any later than 60k's
They are not only future Ford fans but also the future of our world ..........
