I recieved an email reply from Sean Hyland Motorsports (USA) and asked him about how far a 5.4 can be stroked. He said that the 5.4 has a very long stroke as it is but he is building a 5.4 block that can be stroked to the magic 5.8l and to 6.0l.
He also said that he believes that the 5.4 the Falcon will get will be the 3 valve version, approx 300hp. Heard that one before!!!!
Imagine, 6.0 litres of Mod + superchager== hell on wheels.
That's good news, we'll need that extra capacity if HSV go to the 6.2l Gen III. A 6.0l (or even 5.8) DOHC V8 should have no problem dusting a pushrod engine of equal capacity. Hopefully the long stroke won't restrict revs too much, though torque should be excellant
3 valves? pffft. I gurantee you 3 valves will be for the standard
XR8 and T-series should get 4 valves. Holden can stroke all they want. Skaife has been stroking 'it' for years. ford need about 330kw in a light body and we have ourselves a real winner. 330kw would easily be obtained out of the 5.4 DOHC without stroking.
Mr GTHO: Supercharger would be good aftermarket option but not for facotry cars, especially the GTHO.

I agree that the GT/GTHO should remain naturally aspirated without a supercharger or anything else, but in the aftermarket it will make for a ball tearer.
The 5.4 engine we will get should have a lot of untapped potential, much the same as gains are easily made from the LS1 with bolt on mods, we are in for a very interesting time indeed.
well they promised 430kw out of supercharged 5.4 in Hillier coupe, didn't they. Prodrive is now the owner of tickford and we'll be seeing wonders. Tickford extracted 150kw out of mazda mx5 sp and it's even faster than nissan 200sx or the rex, if only they would do it to few lasers,,I would be happy to have one.

Cobra, I'm more thinking about a 6.0l version of the F-150 Lightning in a XR ute. Yee ha!!!!!!
hmmm... could you fit one of those in a metallic dark red 1999 AU? hehehe
that would be so sweet, but even the 5.4L has a fair bit of potential. come on, the Mustang 4.6 outputs 240kw - that means the 5.4 should make 280kw OUT OF THE BOX! i can see ford having any problems with squeezing decent amounts of power out of the engine.

Adviliax, you can't say that the engine should make 280kw out of the box going off what the 4.6 makes, they are 2 different engines and therefore the efficiency of each at making power will be different....
