I can confirm that there are four 6.8L v10's undergoing a series of tests for the new GT range. You would ask why does the v10 need to undergo tests hear in Oz its already a production engine in the states. The tests are more specific to the load and weight of the new car and varyinging climate conditions (ie hotter)here in Oz. They have done this all before but this time engineers have been told to perform extreme tollarance tests to produce maximum reliability in the new GT range. What does the car look like? I have no idea, but I can say that Ford Australia are seriously looking at the 6.8L as an option, it will just be a matter of market testing and the economics plus viability of that option.
Some news on the new turbo XR6. Each production engine for the range will produce 230KW all day long, it will be upto ford to target the power range for consumers(ie detune/lower boost-for petrol consumption). The engineers at Herrod have even had 260KW out of the engine at 25lb boost, before it kicked a rod. Some exciting HP figures for the aftermarket guys chasing power out of a factory six.
Nice if it's needed. I would prefer it if they stuck with a good old V8 for GT, GTHO but if Holden has something better and faster then by all means go the V10 and kick the crap out of em.
If a 6.8L is what Ford's Market Research indicates is the way to go, then do it! It would certainly not be a cheap excercise, however aspirationally it may prove invaluable. Just look back to the XY GTHO, people still talk about it today - 30 years later!

Thats right mate... 30 year old car still being aspirational...
All I know about the GTHO is that they were one of the fastest four door sedans in the world... thats what what Ford should be doing.
Maybe not with all this supposed V10 stuff.. but something VERY special... something that will take years for competetion to catch up

260? Did you mean 360? :s6:
Just remember that a 4L running at 1 bar has roughly an "effective" capacity of 8L!!

Clicky clicky here for previous ride! I still miss her!
haha, 25 pounds of boost in an IL6 4L with the DOHC your looking at a huge amount of horsepower.
Think of a skyline. If at 9.5psi it has 210 horse AT the wheels, then something with 1.6x the capacity running 25psi is just a rediculous amount of horsepower.
Im not even going to guess, but its huge. Especially now with the DOHC.
Speculate,speculate.....what is TT398win's source and what proof...all wonderful stuff...sorta what dreams are made of...V10,V10,I'll believe when I see it.
