I was walking towards the Queen St Mall in Brissie today and I saw the blue XR6 VCT that was on the cover of performance Ford go past. To be honest, it looks about three times as good in the flesh as on the front cover. What caught my attention was the street machine-ish external guages and then as it drove away, I recognised the plates!
The only downside I reckon was the 'ricey' exhaust note. Sounded like one of those full shick moit japanese turbo things.
Pity about the wheels, too.

External bonnet gauges are also ricey, except on cars that need to run them outside because they've got live fuel lines going thru them. They also a defectable item.

Yeah must say i'm not too keen on the guages either. Seems the engine bay was dressed nicely.

Here is a pic of the car your talking about by the way, was posted in the showroom a while ago

I reckon it looks sweet, especially if your into showing your car and all that. Personally I like the look of the black XR on the end, that would do me fine for a daily driver :s6:

I like external gauges but then again my car needs them but the problem is you can't park your car anywhere I've already had one lot pinched from my driveway during the day

External guages are nice if they are needed. I would not put them on any car unless i was running live fuel through them.

The external guages haven't really made it onto the rice burners up here. Well you don't see much of them anyway. They usually go for the electroluminescent blue monster autometer guages up near the windscreen. I guess if you don't want to go hacking up your dashboard to fit in some decent guages, then the only other option is outside the cabin. And if you go to the exspense of getting aftermarket guages then the only reliable ones are the mechanical ones (as opposed to the electric ones). So I see it in a practical sense rather than a 'looks' sense.

The hood mounted Tach on the old Pontiacs looked good though.

Can I just say guys, having seen Tony's car in person and up close.. (I bought his old au1 skirts and bi-wing off him) the car is very nice indeed, not to over done. The guages are blended in well colour wise and the all round trim is very nice. He has spent a considerable amount of timew and money on his project. Any car that wins best XR at the Tickford day must be fine I think!

Next time you see him xt, go up to him and say high! Tony is a great bloke.

I must admit it is a very nice car and he has done a lot of work to it from when it was at the 2001 Tickford Family Day, it all blends very well and is very eye catching. Just to point out from above he actually won best AU at the Tickford Family Day not best XR.
