What does everyone think an acceptable oil consumpsion is for an engine before it needs to be looked at be it the 4.0L Inline 6 or Windsor.
Seems the LS1/GenIII engines are common in taking 2L per 10,000km.
Also just curious on whats everyones oil consumption in their car and whether there worried or not?
In 10,000km my car hardly takes any oil, the absolute most being like 100ml. Usually it doesn't require a top up.

one of my friends with a VX SS is going through an oil test..
I am amazed Holden are trying to say that's normal consumption ... that sort of oil usage used to be normal on 200,000 k dungers.. not new cars. If my car was using that I would be thinking seriously about a rebuild
They go well... but the problems people are having and more to the point the response from Holden is pretty poor.
If it was a ford it would be in the news and A Current Affair ... as it's holden the silence is deafening.
2L per 10,000k's is way too much for my liking 0.5L I think should be acceptable for a car that's done over 100,000k's.
Holden says it's normal when their cars fall to pieces and I agree with them. :s5
I gave my car an oil change just after I replaced the head gasget. During the next 10k it used about 2l of oil and was extremely dirty. I was as you could imagine very un-impressed. I then did another oil change and it has not used a drop in the 2.5k since. It still looks nice and clean and the car has 173k on it.... So ATM I'm quite happy :s4
AU XR8 service every 20000km, not a drop of oil missing.Done 150000.My brother lives in QLD:bs2:
He'd rather drive a camry if he got an ls1 with 1 ltr oil/10000.
I remember someone saying they[Holden] use synthetic oil from factory and have no troubles ? How things have changed.
Thats why they say first oil, thinner mineral type on run in..
I feel though there is more to it,like too low tension rings.
Remember the earlier G.M V6's vp/s ? had similar probs. If it was a Ford it would be front page news.
Well it would affect 99%
of taxi's so I guess it would.. Haha

The Ls1 if your unaware, falls into 2 sets of tollerances,
the best engines, are kept for the United States, and the ones that dont pass there tollerance tests, are then classified into the second set of tollerances, which is slightly slacker. these engines are then acceptable for Export at a discounted price. the engines that dont even pass those tollerances, are considered fail's and aren't sold.
Sorry, but its the engines that Chevy rejects, that makes holdens the worst.
