Adventura - Good!

Was out doin a bit of tourin on the weekend with some mates down at Deep Creek Conservation Park (Near Victor Harbour), when we stumbled across a pre-production Adventura out gettin some miles on it. Pulled up alongside of it an happened to be someone i know who works for Holdens. Stopped for awhole an had a chat about it with him an had a gander all over it.
I have to say it's a pretty impressive motor car, it was an LX8 which is the top of the range jobby with leather interior.
Looking underneath there's surprisingly alot of ground clearance, everything is tucked up out of the way nice an neat.
Something a lil different is the rear tailgate/window, which can operate like a normal wagon back or you can open up just the rear window the same style by pushing a button. Not sure wether it was on the remote or dash mounted. My first thought was how gimmiky, but talkin an thinkin about it, it would be quite useful.
When he was leavin we got him to go out through this quite steep lil track that was washed out an rutted quite badly, bein dry an rocky it was fairly grippy but there was a few loose rocks an a bit off gravel on it. Didn't spin a wheel, went up easy as. He then stopped on some loose sandy/dusty gravel, probly bout a 20 degree slope an fed it. Just took of without spinnin a wheel, backed up an did it again with more gas, same result.
The driver was sayin that he was gettin into it on the road earlier in the day an it was sittin on the road very nice round corners.
Being priced at about 5 grand more than an equivelant spec holden station wagon, i reckon they have killed their wagon sales.
As ya might have gathered i was quite impressed, if i was looking for a family car i would definintly have to consider one. Hopefully the Territory is equally or rather more impressive. Pity the Territory wont be comin with a V8, as it sounded pretty sweet when he gave it a bootfull takin off.
Oh an another thing,

Coming March, 2004 to an HSV dealer near you...... 300kw AWD MONARO!!!
there's one sittin in holdens factory now!!

Re: Adventura - Good!

The Territory will also have the rear window opening separate to the actual door...but I don't know how it wil be operated.

I believe the Adventra is a very good vehicle, with some very good features. I just hope Ford get the Territory right. At least Ford should be ahead in the Stability control department, using I think version 8.1 of Bosch's system...whilst I think the Adventra only has version 5.

You got my attention!!!

Seriously, The Adventura sounds great. My only concern is the fact that it so station wagon focused. I look forward to seeing what the Territory with the turbo 6 implant can do! With the power those engines are capable of, unless they are considering a BOSS 290 option, the Turbo 6 looks to be on the money in all aspects compared to the 220 option (accept sound).

Re: Adventura - Good!

l'll will be interesting to seewhat 6cyl version of the Adventra will be like. A 6cyl with 200kw and 5 speed auto would be adequate for me.

Look at the ford escape...my uncle has got one and it has two hidden boot lids...one for opening the door and the other for opening the window

Why people buy any sort of soft 4WD i will never know - 99% dont leave the city so whats the point

compromised handling, braking and power
excessive fuel use

Wife won't drive a station wagon and loves the higher road visibility of the 4 x 4. We also do 3 trips a year to the coast- sand dunes Yeehaa!!

These days many of newer soft off roaders are better quality, have more creature comforts and nicer to drive than the alternative station wagon. Most car manufactures build station wagons with a bloke in mind. With most soft off roads its the ladies that normal make the purchasing decision.

Our 4x4 has big 17" shinny alloys, polished side rails and nudge bar, pretty sparkly paint and a very plush interior with a good sound system. Everything a girl needs..lol
Do you think I could get her to consider a Futura station wagon for the same money..Not on your life!
