Question Advertising standards effect every brand - NOT

On TV last night I saw an ad for the Honda Odyssey , and who happened to be driving but a new born Baby! Now before you flame me for being a stick in the mud, I think that the new advertising standards are a joke!!!, but fair is fair and If ford and holden had to drop their kick ass ads then why does Honda get to show an obviously unlicenced driver on TV.

I dont think that showing that ad will encourage any other babys from taking a Honda Odyssey for a spin any more that showing an XR8 Ute racing a land speed car in the desert will encourage you or me to prowl the deserts for a race, but its only fair that the rules apply to all or none at all!!!

By the way, to further highlight the fact that the advertising standards are a joke the ad came on just before a show called JACKASS, what a top show about guys doing danderous stunts in cars and shoping trolleys. The stunts were done without safety equipment or in a safely controled environment. They could have easily endangered the public.

I dont want the show taken off because I laughed my ass off but what a joke that TV stations can show a program like that but have to censor and water down the TV ads for fear of lunatic drivers.

What do you guys think, and did you see JACKASS?

ADZ351 - I'm 99% sure that the advertising standards say that if the driving is depicted in fantasy (ie. a dream) then it doesn't matter what is happening - unless they show a baby talking on a mobile phone driving with its feet at 220 km/h....that would be interesting!!!)

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the ad, until I saw the baby was dreaming.

I can't believe that Channel 10 are allowed to show something like Jackass, I would have thought every governing body would have banned it due to its recklessness. Some of it was funny though.

I don't have a problem with the ad myself but I can't see how it passes the driving is probably the most wreckless I can think of in any car ad except for the VX driveway one.

Honda is a fully imported brand..

Thus the government can't really influence them much to make them abide by "volantary code". Local manufactures are much more at risk of government meddleing..

Thus imported brands will be able to advertise what they like. Racing, burn outs.. Don't matter. Ford, Holden, Toyota, Mitsubishi will have to be more restrained.
