I recently wrote to the state governtment about why the speed limit is 100kph.

Both of these highways are two lanes each way, whereas, the Princess Freeway is three lanes each way after Werribee.
The Princes Freeway was only recently completed and is far superior than most freeways/highways in Victoria.
I look forward to your response.
I got no response from the current state government. I so emailed the same letter to the opposition.
Here is their response

Mr Doyle notes your concerns.
I understand that when the Geelong Road was upgraded in 2002, VicRoads
raised concerns that a higher speed limit would be dangerous, especially at
peak hours with the sheer volume of traffic. There are also a number of on
or off ramps.
Mr Terry Mulder MP, Shadow Minister for Transport will release the Liberal
Party's detailed transport policies prior to the November 2006 State
election. Mr Mulder will bear your concerns in mind.

Then today I got a reply from Vicroads

The Government’s arrive alive! Road Safety Strategy aims to reduce the
road toll by 20% by 2007. One of the key challenges identified in the
Strategy is speeding. Reductions in travel speeds will significantly
reduce the number and severity of road crashes. The Government’s
initiatives are already showing results with the road toll being reduced.
The Princes Freeway between Melbourne and Geelong does not meet the
speed Zoning Guidelines criterion for a speed limit of 110 km/h. A key
criterion for a 110 km/h speed zone is that the traffic volume must be
less than 25,000 vehicles per day. The Princes Freeway between Melbourne
and Geelong carries more than 40,000 vehicles a day. This section was
recently upgraded to reduce the number of road crashes, and to provide
for growth in traffic volumes. Experience shows that whenever speed
limits are increased, vehicle speeds increase. Raising the speed limit
would compromise the improved safety benefits of the upgraded road.
Thank you for taking the time to forward your views. If you would like
to discuss this matter further, Mr Robert **********, VicRoads Regional
Manager – South Western Victoria (Tel: **** ****) would be pleased to

Now the opposition's email is just a standard one but Vicroads gives their reasons.
Should I ring the number and see if I can take this further or should I just leave it be... I'm sure I myself cannot get zoning laws changed, but maybe I can increase pressure on them to rezone the Princes Fwy.
dont say that one person cant make a difference. My parents live on the rural fringe in perth. Because of this, almost all calls made were charged as STD. My mum was annoyed at this so she started writing letters and complaining about it to the local government and they arranged with telstra to give us a larger area of local calls, but took away community calls (calls on the same or very close excahnges.. charged at 15c) so my mum was happy and everyone else has that option now. If you write in your opinion to the news paper and let your local government know that you have a problem, things can change.

better tell germany and the rest of europe that 110kmh is far too dangerous then. id like to see the government explain why there are far less crashes on the autobahns where you can do what ever speed you feel like compared to the enormous amount we have here at slower speeds.

It's a 3 lane hgihway from Geelong to Hoppers Crossing where it then becomes 4 friggen lanes each way from hoppers to the CBD. How the fcuk can they not justify making it 110km. Trust me, I've done alot more on that road and if it wasn't safe would I be sitting here now? Make your own minds up!
