got a quote done on my 2V heads to have hardened exhaust seats fitted, $260 all good there, but wait "yeah mate there might be a bit more in labour on that coz we'll have to pull your valves out, but it wont be too much" thats all well and good but that was over a month ago, i have called them twice to check on the progress and there "really busy lately" but then last week i get a call to say that the heads are ready to go final cost is a few dollars shy of $500 so whats the go there, and the answer i get is "mate its all legitimate and itimised but we had to do a few other things too"

so i want to know where i stand i mean i don't want to just ditch the heads coz they have had a bit of work done to them but i don't want to throw my money away either, what to do??

What else did they do to the heads Ron? I agree that they should charge what they quote or contact you if they need the OK to do more work.
I would not do hardened seats without doing new valve guides. But if the shop has done extra work without your OK, you do have grounds to complain.
Probably worth getting a written quote no matter how small the job, sorry not that, that helps you now.

thats true workhorse business can go ahead and do extra work unless you have given them permission to do so i,m pretty sure its acctully against the law

Isnt it always th way even when we get a quote it always seem 2 cost more because of "other work" that needed 2 b done. Wether it needed 2 b done or not they NEVER ring 2 ask but even if they do they will put such a spin on it u will end up paying 4 it anyway

yeah well the next time i go to the engineering works i'll take a tub of vasoline so i can at least get ready for the pumping that i'll get

I would never let them add a generic "possible other charges" and sign it away as its asking for disaster.

christ i must be lucky cos when i go to my repairers of choice i get told x amount and the final cost is usually x minus 20 bucks....or sumtimes a freebie....god i love the bush...lol.

I like this bit, how were they expecting to do the valve seats without pulling the valves out? Should have factored that in to start with.

yeah thats what i can't understand they should know that pulling the valves out only takes like half an hour at most, thats if you really struggle. anyway **** it i'll just get some legal advice and see where i stand
