Re: Another question for the computer gurus

478 is the old chipset, will only support up to Prescott 3.4 Extreme, whereas the 775 is the new one and will support all new processors.

Dysleksia got?

Re: Another question for the computer gurus

478 refers to the pins on the cpu. The old p4 have 478 were as the new chipsets have 775. So if you want a 775 you will also need to upgrade your motherboard by a hellish amount

CURRENT MODS:
- 17" TICKFORD RIMS w/ GT RADIALS
- TICKFORD BADGEING
- CLEAR INDICATORS w/ AMBER GLOBES
- BLUE LED LIT CLUSTER
- TICKFORD AIR SNOKEL
- K & N AIR FILTER

Re: Another question for the computer gurus

This thread is useless without pics!

On the left we have a Socket 775, and on the right the older Socket 478.

As has already been said, the Socket 478 doesn't support the latest Pentium 4 CPUs.

Most likely it's a Socket 478.

Here on the left we have a Socket 478 CPU, and on the right a Socket 775 CPU.

Re: Another question for the computer gurus

socket 775 has the pins on the motherboard as you can see in the pics, so a brand new pinless P4 is needed for this socket.
bloody Intel changing things for the sake of changing things, there is no point in this pinless design rather then simply being different and hard to install, and easier to break things when installing

EFII Fairmont Ghia: EL GT's, NF corner lights, Tickford intake. more soon
