Hey bruddas,

I just received a parking fine in the mail today, a month after I apparently parked in a 'No Parking Zone' in the city. There was no sticker attatched to my car on that date or whenever, and in fact I don't even remember going to the city on that date. The lady on the phone said the description of the car given by the Parking Inspector was the same as I described my car was.

Anyway, I asked her how I can get off it. She asked me some quick questions about whether I'd let someone borrow my car or whether I'd gone in to the city and after I answered no to both she said to write in to them. I told her I was probably at work that night (restaurant) and she told me to get my 'boss' to verify that my car was there on a Statutory Declaration. I now have to prove I was at work until 1AM to only 'possibly' get off the fine.

I'm going to get my brother (who is the Manager of the restaurant, family business) to write the Statutory Dec. and I will write the accompanying letter. I will send it in first thing Monday or Tuesday.

My question now is, has anyone every had to do anything like this?? Has anyone done anything like this and been successful?? Has anyone got any advice for me??

$100 is a lot for me, being a student. I don't get payed much at the restaurant. I keep thinking of all the things I can buy with $100 lol....Davies Craig thermo switch kit, full tank of petrol and gas, 2/3 of a cam etc. etc.

Yeah. I got one for parking facing the wrong direction at the end of a court - how anal is that?

Anyway I told my car broke and we pushed in that spot. They asked for a mechanics report. Told 'em I fixed myself and sent them a broken coil in a post bag. it was worth the $6 postage - I got off.

Sundeep don't fret about the stat'dec. They're on the back of all fine's you get for parking/speeding/red light camera's etc. Just get whoever to sign it and tell them they have to be prepared to go to court if asked to back it up in front of a judge if the council decide to test it. You can lie if you want but make sure you've got others to go along with the lie... if you know what I mean.

i got off one with the port phillip council and one in perth with wilson paarking. the port phillip one was me parking in a loading zone. it wasnt clearly marked, i actually paid for parking and it was a genuine mistake. they let me off. i also under paid my all day parking in perth by 50cents and got a ticket. i emailed them and told them that i was unlikely to try to rip someone off by 50c and that it was a genuine mistake and they let me off. i think if you sound genuine, they usually give up...especially if you sound like you are prepared to fight them. there is nothing a council hates more than extra work.
