Well, it only took 4500km to find that the LS1 needs to depart the engine bay at the local Holden dealer. My Dad is kind of upset (understatement) but I had a laugh when I clicked on the "New Thread" button to start this thread - What's new about LS1s coming out of the engine bay?

how have Holden been with the issue? I don't mind if cars stuff up (hey lets face it they all do it at some stage) but it's how the people that made the car deal with is that worries me.

Thats no good Pete, i would only imagine your dad would be pissed off especially paying alot of doe for the car.
I honestly thought that initially it was blown out of proportion this LS1 oil problem but guess it may not be.
So what are they going to do, rebuild with new pistons and rings?

Another one!!!
My son worked[work experiance] at an automtive in St Marys. They have up to three Gen 3's there at a time.He said they fit new pistons supplied & cam bearings. The Holden dealers can't keep up with demand, they are subbing them out...

Has your dad considered a trade in on an FPV
Mason.
what kind of GREAT engine is that? I mean your parents only done 4500k since they bought it? I would've done 20-25K!!!so I assume I need to have 5 engine rebuilts a year if I bought the brilliant all new GENIII.
Thanks for the thread Pete, I almost started to look at the new CV8s and SS's!Thank God for this forum!

If memory serves me correctly, AP bought his folks the car. You may be laughing but you must feel somewhat guilty knowing you bought your folks a dud.... :-) I know I would. Maybe convince your old man to trade up for an XR8 when it comes out...assuming the Monaro lasts that long LOL!!
well the 'subbing out' thing i did not know about, we seem to be able to get enough done at my work...there are some guys at my work who can remove, rebuild, reassemble and fit a Gen III in 12 hours (obviously not including the time it takes for the machine shop to measure the bores etc and fit new pistons to conrods)
we are doing about 2 or 3 a week at my work as well.
so how many ks has the car done? and how much oil was it using? holden allow 2.5L per 10,000km before they consider a rebuild, so it would have gone from 'full' to 'fill' on the dipstick at about 4000k at least....

Hey pete, i dont think theres any other way to put it but that REALLY SUX ARSE. i think it'd be horrible to buy a new car and have to have the engine re-conditioned.
are you ever going to sell the monaro? wont it severly devaluate the car?
