In a report comparing the rate of serious injuries experienced by road users (including pedestrians?) from 1999 to 2002 the ATSB shows that the only group experiencing a noticeable reduction has been pedestrians.
This is almost certainly (?) a 50 zone result or perhaps better pedestrian safety initiatives introduced by councils such as road side barricades around pubs and the like.

Consider the marginal improvements in the contaxt of ADR69 continuing to roll out into the vehicle fleet (occupant protection measures mandated from 1995) and then ask what remaining improvement is due to speed cameras and double demerit points.......
