Just wondering if those of you on here that are car sales people can help me out....

I am thinking of entering the car sales industry and want to know the best way to get into it. I already have a degree in marketing and want to know if further study would be needed- is a certificate (2 or 3) in auto sales required to get a job?

How did you guys or girls get your jobs in the industry? Any info would be a great help.

you do not need to get any more education to get a job in sales, most franchised dealerships have in house training, you need to go in and ask for a job you may be surprised.

Go through the daily paper, especially the weekend editions and you may find recruitement firms specialising in positions in the motor trade.
Just make sure it's the type work you want to do. There is a fair bit of pressure depending on what dealer it is and the type of sales manager/dealer principle combination. Treat the position as if it's your own business, as in the cars are yours and you must make a profit to stay afloat.
In my case the dealer principle is in tune with his staff and wants to make sure the team functions at it's best at all times.

Thanks RATT,

I was looking through The Age on Saturday and came across the auto jobs and that is what got me thinking. There were places such as The Motor People Training Academy and online businesses such as http://www.ljw.com.au/ that offer job services.

Basically i want be in automotive marketing rather than as a saleperson. However, my thinking was if i cant get a marketing postion, i become a salesperson for a while and then try and get automotive marketing work.

All i know is cars are my passion and I want to work in the industry....

There can be but once again depends on which dealer we're talking here. Yes you will have to start in sales first which is not a bad thing. Just put your head down and be keen. I have the same goal as you, marketing. The Peter Warren goup which my dealership, Peter Warren Smithfield is part of, has Sales Managers and Dealer Principles taking care of the marketing. It will take a few years of hard work but the rewards are certainly there.
Your statement that you have a passion for cars is a good reason to get in but it shouldn't be the only one. You need to be motivated EVERYday, otherwise you will start feeling the pressure.
Have a go at it. If you don't like it, get out. Simple as that.
