G'day people......
I have come accross some info in the new wheels mag,
We all have the potential in our 3.9L or 4.0L engines to beat these evil non ford cars down the quarter mile!!!!!
Those of us who have done serious mods may already be able to beat the majority already.......
Anyway, here are the facts!!!
HSV GTS Coupe 5.7L
14.20 @ 166.1 km/h
Chevrolet Corvette C5 5.7L
13.95 @ 168.7 km/h (maybe a little quick for us, but not impossible)
Holden Monaro CV6
16.12 @ 139.3 km/h (bloody pittiful!!!)
Nissan 200sx 2.0L Turbo
14.78 @ 157.9 km/h
Honda S2000 2.0L
15.11 @ 156.9 km/h
Mazda Mx5 1.8L
14.40 @ 162.6 km/h
Mitsubishi Ralliart Magna 3.5L
15.26 @ 154.7 km/h
Volkswagen New Beetle 3.2L
15.61 @ 144.1 km/h (fast little bugger!)
Anyway as I said, our falcons have the potential to beat all these cars down the quarter!!!!!!! HARNESS THE POWER!!!!
Jack,
no i wasn't kidding.... the MX5 is a quick little turd.
I do agree with your comment on stock cars compared to modified ones....... but we are driving family sized cars here, we need some sort of advantage! lol.
Yeah, that 1/4 time for the MX-5 sounds about right for the turbo. The NA 1.8 would be in the 16 sec bracket.
Sure with the right amount of mods you could beat any of those cars down the 1/4. But like Air C said, no road runs straight forever. All of them would leave an EA or even an AU for dead on a winding road.
Your right, not all roads are straight but how many times how u and a friend booted off from the lights for no paticular reason? Most ppl think in terms of "i can beat a eg vn, laser gogo mobile" and thats where the 0 - 100 times and 1/4 mile times matter. I wish the streets of melbourne was a race track, but it isnt so alot of ppl think traffic light drags is where it matters. Makes sense i think, and i agree somewhat.
You kidding youself if you think the times for the Corvette and HSV GTS is actually anywhere near an accurate time for them.
Considering in the US a Corvette Z06 will run very low 12 sec 1/4s, and that Convertible Motor tested was modded to Z06 spec, then you can see how quick it should be.
Ever see the times they get for the Mustang, mid 14s! They run mid 13s in the US, for exactly the same car!
Hell even the 190Kw GT can run high 13s stock.
14.2 from a GTS?? LMAO, with a good driver and very little mechanical sympathy, I would imagine it could sneak into the high 12 sec 1/4s. Its got 400Hp FFS
Magazines cant drive anything that is only 2wd, thier times for the AWD cars are pretty close to accurate, but when it comes to only one end of the car being powered, they suck plain and simple.
When looking a magazine times, you can generally take anything from 0.5sec to 1sec off their times to get an accurate figure.
Also they dont run the cars down an actual 1/4mile track, they slap on an electronic device to the side of the car and measure the time with that.
ok , stop the bullshit and just have a look at the nsw xr owners club page , then go to owners cars and have a look at Micks blue EB GLI 6 on nos - it runns 13 sec quarters and tell me it wouldent beat a GTS ?
