All,
I am about to start the restoration of 1957 desoto firesweep. It was my grandfathers car and he always wanted to restore it before he died. It has been siting around for about 2 years now – not driven or anything. It is going to need a full bare metal spray, and there is some rust in the a pillars and around the base of the window that needs to be removed. What I am looking for is for a panel beater to come out and quote me on getting this thing done. The car is in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. I am willing to strip the thing down and put it back together to keep cost down (maybe even prep some panels), so basically I will need a quote for all the panel work and some cutting out of rust. The car has been garaged all its life and by the looks of it the rust is limited to the above mentioned places.
Ideally this will be a long term project, so am looking for someone that is willing to have this car left in their workshop and work on it when they have time so to speak. The vechile is not really drivable so for a quote it would be preferred if you could come view the car at my grandmothers place in the eastern suburbs.
I have not done anything like this before so any tips as to how to strip the thing or any contacts of people that may be interested in such a job would be much appreciated.
Panel beater must be in Sydney metro area…preferably eastern subs but anywhere is fine in the end as long as a good job is done.
Please PM your details or leave them here and I will contact you to arrange a time to inspect the vehicle.
Thanks in advance,
thanks boys...ours is red with a white stripe and white roof...6.3L v8 from memory.
I just need to find someone willing enough to put in the time after i strip her down...its been in a garage all its life so hopefully rust wont be too much a problem...
even if anyone knows anyone that would like to take on a job like this give me yell!
ha ha to be honest...a push bike would probably flog it! motor is fairly tired...after almost 50 yrs of service! should be nice when its done though...
My grandfather had a 55 (57?) Plymouth Fury before I was born... Still burns me that he sold it. A Firesweep is a beautiful car - my advice would be to keep it VERY stock, and it'll be awesome.

Cost's about the same... if you can DIY some things.
I'd hate to say how much that ol V8 would cost to rebuild if it needs new internals... a nice sweet BB Rat would be about the same price!
Im sure gramp's would like his ol girl turned into a work of art.
Ps, your prob gunna get a shock when you get a quote... im guestamating at least $10K(panel'n'paint).
