The AU is Under rated

I thinkthe AU series falcons are very underated and didnt getthe respect they deserve int he media.
The only reason they have been given a bad name is because they where alot different from previous models and the media decided to give it a bad name, If this hadnt happened the AU could be easily considered the best looking falcon ford ages, i think it looks better than the EL series falcs

So can anyone tell me why the AU got such a bad name straight off the bat
I dont get it!! !!

Lately, I have found myself liking the shape more then a lot of the cars available today. I think Ford was abit too ahead of it's time when it was released.

I think AUII's dumped on 18's look horn

big pete...love the avatar. is this yours?

anyways...agree with you. dont know if the media influenced thinking or reflected it. i agree that as the cars get older, the shape grows more and more on me. i even went out and bought one. i especially like the xr series. the first time i saw it, i walked away and shook my head, but did get to drive a forte hire car (quite hard too...you know what they say about hire cars:bs2: ) and was very impressed./

i think ford missed the mark badly with the grille of the first forte. was all too angular for my taste. the softening of the whole design at au2 stage was a big step forward. was at the release of this car to perth and fell in love woth the red xr8 on display. it is a car that has got better looking with each variation. agree with homer...i think it was ahead of its time.

Nah the car on the avatars not mine (I wish it was)

id have to say the first time i saw the AU, i was surprised it was so different and this is probly the way alot of people felt and they saw probly a few hing wrong like the grille and dint really like the new edge design. But now it looks so good, th commadore looks so outdated.

I remember when the AU came out i knew it looked a bit like an ugly duckling, but as much as people knocked it i supported it. The shape has really grown on me, and an AU dumped on 18's, even the series one, looks pretty neat. I just love the shape of my brother AU2 xr8, it seems so smoothe and slick. I think the AV will be an extension of this shape, and will really shine and be an absolute stunner.

i think what killed the falcon, according to my freinds, family etc, is the grill on the series 1 fortes. I am seriously a huge falcon freak, but that shark tooth grill is ugly, but the series 2 with the change grill looks a lot better.

Yep reckon youre right on the mark here homer. But it really bites that FORD has been penalised for leaping and bounding ahead in technology and styling.

Even though its a great car, the AU really did miss the market at the time unfortunately...but beware of BARRA!

Similar thing is happening to BMW at the moment. The media and everyone else has been bagging the crap out of the new 7 series, and now the upcoming new Z4. Personally I think both cars look great for the great cars they are and will be. I think the media is prejudicial and stupid in canning a car (the Z4) that they haven't seen upfront before.

I agree with Snavy. However, there's no denying that the "Taurus-style" droppy rear end was a poor design poorly executed. The wheels look as though they are several centimeters inboard of the body, whereas they should be filling out the guards. I think this is the design aspect that turn manty people off the AU

I agree with you all. I remember when I first saw the AU, didn't like it at all. Even said I would never buy one.
The shape has started to grow on me now and I really do love it.
It's said before, but it's true, Ford released the AU ahead of it's time, and it paid big time for it.
A lowering job, and some nice wheels does wonders for the car, it fixes the droopy rear end problem many people have with the car... seen many Fortes with nothing but this and they look killer!
The media had plenty to do with it too, they're a bunch of wanks.
If they had concentrated on the good points of the Falcon, and not so much on the look, people would have definately gone for the Falcon over the crapymodore any day. We all know it's a superior car.
