aufalcon.com battle of the chips!

Well, the Chiptorque chip is in and tomorrow testing begins

I will be at Calder this Friday night to give it a shakedown down the 1/4 a few times and all those AU owners that are interested are invited to attend and see how it goes! Come along and support the challenge, not to mention a great night of racing!

Note: Although none of the information (and videos) showing the chip install and dyno runs are going to be released until the testing is completed, here is the first baseline dyno run, before the chip went in, to wet your appetite. Further teasers and interesting info MAY be released during the test but no hard figures to the end.

yeah, best ever was 16.277, hopefully I can beat that by a few 10ths and get into the 15's.

Well, since Calder is rained out tonight, we all have to wait till next Friday before the 1/4 times can be done. I'll be going out with the GTec as soon as there is some dry roads this weekend to see what it has to say.

106kw ... what is the catch?.. it shouldnt be anywhere near THAT low before you start... That is nearly 40% dtloss from factory.. 172kw down to 106rwkw... Whoa Either you car has major issues or someone has diddled the dyno... What psi in the tyres? Was the bonnet open? Airbox lid on?

The sums just don't add up.. there is no way a VCT engine would be that low even in factory spec.. or that the T5 or BTR + BW LSD would account for 40% loss

I'd really be looking into your car Casper, that figure is way too low...

A previous run from a few months ago was 108.6rwkw so it is accruate. As for being low, every engine is different however 106 - 112rwkw is an accepted figure for an auto VCT XR6 in stock form. I have looked into it a fair bit and it is correct. There are VCT's with full exhaust systems only doing 119rwkw on average.
Tyres were 36psi, bonnet was open, airbox was untouched. There is plenty of video of the dyno runs that will be released with the results.

I will give a hint though, the A/F mix was increadably RICH!!! Try 10-1

so what is the kilowatt eating link in the drive train that is causing the 40% loss.. any ideas?.. all those all manual cars or autos?

40% is crazy... i have never heard of a car losing that much from fly to wheels before..

EDIT : you added the AFR bit after i typed a response.. So did you fix the AFR and give it another hit out.. Thats a dud O2 sensor usually isn't it?

Well, 30% of factory stated fwkw is certainly accepted for most cars, 35% for autos is not unheard of, especially for one that is over 100,000 kms old. So if we take 35% loss on 172 fwkw we get 111.8rwkw. Then add into the mix the horrid factory A/F mix they set the VCT ECU up with and 106rwkw is certainly WELL within the range. I would guess that most stock VCT engines with auto would be lucky to 112rwkw straight out of the factory. It is well known that they have a mighty thirst for fuel which can be seen in the 10-1 A/F mix the ECU runs at.
