Well I have been thrashing over this question/dillema with Mrs Kooky now for a couple of weeks:
I plan to sell my AU1 XR6, initially i was after a BA XR8 ute, then I spotted an AUIII pursuit ute for what I believe to be a VERY good price for the amount of km's travelled. Well I had made my mind up that I wanted the AU over the BA.
Well Mrs Kooky objected to me spending around 35k for an AU over 37 for a BA (considering I have an AU now). She is looking at it purely from a financial point of veiw, unfortunatly I do not, this is a heart, not head decision.
Admittedly they are both great cars and I truly would be happy driving either car, what I am after is opinions from you from your hearts and your heads as to which would be the better option.
ie. I feel the pursuit will drop less $ over the ownership because its already lost a lot of value due to its age, the BA will loose more when BA2 arrives so am I better off buying the pursuit or not? Or should I just buy the newer ute?
As I have driven neither of these cars yet it may all depend on which I feel more comfortable driving, BTW this car will not be driven very much at all as we have the donkey-dore for that (company car with fuel card) so I wont be racking up huge km's hence the depreciation issue with the newer BA v's AUIII...........
Any advice/comments along these lines would be appreciated!
The Pursuit will be quicker. It depends if you want to do mods and how long you want to keep the car for. I would say you would get more for the BA down the track especially as though you'll have less km. It's a hard decision mate, but I think BA would be the smarter option in the end, keep the mrs happy, get more money when you do eventually sell it, it's a newer car and you allready have an AU. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I would go the pursuit, last of the windsors, and a 250kw stroker, i don't think they will be a collectors item in the short term, a bit like the T3 TE/TS, but in the long term they will be considered the best of their era, it will be lighter and handle better than the BA and be quicker in standard form
Would still go the pursuit despite the auto they were a great engine and IMO the outside look a lot better than the BA's, although i do like the BA Interior more. Great to see your considering a car with a full engine under the bonnet
Im currently in the same situation but im leaning towards the BA because im not really a fan of the AU dash plus the buldge on the BA gives me a buldge in my pants.
I would estimate they would have very similar depreciation over the short-medium term as a BA XR8 will consistently be worth more than the Pursuit. In the longer term the Pursuit will be far more collectible which will be reflected in its price but you may have to wait 15 years for that.
