So far I understand it that Ford are planning to have a IL6, Turbo 6 and a 5.4l v8...
Are they gonna use different sepcification/power levels between their core range [leaving t-series aside], i.e holden have the LS1 in all models from ute, wagon, exec to ss...with only the HSV get a different tune.
I am thinking of a low spec AV ute but I don't want the usual ford BS of putting in a v8 that a 6 would eat...
What Ford 6 beats the equivalent 8? If you mean certain XR6 models that were supposedly faster than the 8s, look at the whole story. The 6s seemed faster but this was only to certain points such as 100km/h. It was purely a function of gearing. Look at the timing sheets and you'll see the XR8s were faster to 120, 130 etc, and to 80 and some other median points.
Same thing applies to WRXs. If you go back and look at say the times between WRX and GTS-R Commodore, you will see that after the critical 100km/h mark the WRX needed a gearchange while the GTS-R forged ahead.
the 100km/h and 400m points are but snapshots in time. Like the children overboard issue, you need to see more photos to get the real story!

I will rephrase, make my question a little clearer...
Will I be able to buy a low spec 240kw ute?
I can currently buy a holden 225kw ute...will ford flow the one spec of 8 through their range [exc t series] or will they continue with the lower output eights in the lower spec vehicles?
AU3 ute is due next month. Apparently it will have a few worthwhile updates.
As for 'AV' ute, unlike sedan etc it will not be released until first quarter 2003. There are rumours everywhere, but bet on 240kW for the base V8 (if Ford are smart, and we know they are smarter than before.....)

The only 255kw ute you can buy from Holden is the HSV Maloo, the low spec base model doesn't seem to have the V8 as an option, you have to buy an S or SS that has only has 225kw.
It's pretty normal for car manufacturers to low spec vehicles with (reletively) low power motors. Don't want Granny having a high speed stack when she puts her foot down to beat the orange light! Plus who would buy a Maloo/SS or XR8/T-Series if the power was the same as an Executive or Forte?

But Pete, isn't it illegal (therefore dangerous) to go faster than this?

An S is pretty basic and you can buy an Exec sedan with 225kw, same as the SS...thats my point. Holden supplies the same v8 for all its cars [exc HSV] whereas ford put in different specs for the lower level cars...
