Under no circumstances should you ever bring your car here for service. I brought my Ford Focus in last week for a humming sound that I was hearing in the front end. They put it up on the lift to determine what was wrong and less than an hour later I got a call saying that I needed work done that would cost over $1700.

Given the amount of money I was quoted, I brought my car to another mechanic for a second opinion. He told me that it would be approximately $150 in parts and $250 in service. Since there was such a big discrepancy between the two assessments, I brought it to another mechanic for a THIRD inspection. He also quoted me parts and service totaling under $500.

Here's the kicker.... Muzi Ford told me that I needed new front CV drive axles, however both of the other mechanics told me that they were in great shape and absolutely did not need to be replaced. I called Muzi back about this and spoke to the mechanic who assessed my car. After some questioning and telling him about the other quotes that I received, he admitted that I did not need them but that "they might have to replaced down the road at some point".

Needless to say, I ended up bring my car to one of the other shops where the car was fixed in a matter of hours for less than $500 for parts and service combined. The sound is gone and the car is running like it did the day that I bought it.

DON'T EVER BRING YOUR CAR TO MUZI FORD!

I'd suggest you call the dealer and explain that to the service manager. If they aren't told what's happening, they can't remedy it. I was a service manager and in most cases, the only way I knew of a problem like that, was for the customer to let me know.

I did just that and he said that he would investigate the matter. I was honestly so shocked that this type of thing was going on. What's scary is that if they had quoted me a little less, I might have agreed to the unnecessary service without getting a second opinion.

I'd call him back later and see what became of it. Then call the general manager of the dealership and let him in on it too. I'm glad you were cautious and saved some money.

That's good advice. I will followup with them later this week and post the outcome. Hopefully it was just one bad seed...

I would think it is. I don't see a dealer wanting his employees losing sales (service, parts, new and used cars) over trying to cheat someone. That would be great to find out what the outcome is.
