Well ford, you've really done it this time.

I thought it was pure chance or maybe an error at the Ford headquarters when i drove past a BA XR6, gunmental grey with BA GT STRIPES!!!!

But, alas, driving past a car park in mornington, yet another XR, this time the 8, orange in colour with black BA GT stripes.

Ford, (edit: AND non-GT owners), GT Stripes are for GT's, and even though i hate them (Yes Sparkles, you have a cherrub) should be confined to the GT series. It's plain tacky to have them on GT's, and even TACKIER to have them on XR's.

I dont think its ford, but rather the driver putting those things on.

Have seen a couple myself, but my rage is directed at owner rather than Ford!

Yeah, well, shouldn't ford request a VIN number of proof of ownership of a GT before handing out the stripes?

I think it's silly that they are letting it happen.. But yeah, i am just taking the piss a little, i'm not angry with ford or anything ..

I agree with ya there. GT stripes in my opinion should be solely for the use of GT's and nothing else. But who is gonna stop people from doing this, if Ford are making money from it?

Impossible to stop anyone from making their car look like something it's not. It's nothing new, particularly in the GT guise. There's probably more XW/XY GT lookalikes than there are GT's.

I also can't see how it devalues the GT at all. There's more to the GT than a stripe kit.

They wouldn't be genuine stripes to begin with. There are places where you can get them made up so no it's not Ford that is doing them.

Well, i happen to know for a fact that the orange XR8 i saw had the stripes from factory, as i asked the guy.. So it looks like ford will do anything if there's enough $ in it..

That's incorrect. No one can order "factory" stripes as they do not exist as a Ford factory option. Any dealer or person can go to a sticker place and get them made up and fitted on site.

Don't need a VIN number mate, don't need Ford to put them on. Just pop by Coles and buy a roll of electrical tape. Comes in black, white, red, yellow, green, blue, whatever....pfffttt!
