I agree with you mate. But i think Ford really do want to try and differentiate their model line ups, so credit must be given to them for sticking to that.
It is a shame, but if it really is an issue for most people, them we'll see many Forte/Futura's with blacked out lights.

The new LTD and T Series will be expensive too, and many cars in its price bracket have had gas discharge headlamps for years. The Monaro came close to having that feature, but it was dropped for cost reasons.
I'm tipping that if Barra doesn't have gas discharge, the new LWB models will.

It comes down to cost. Each BA model will be slightly more expensive than the corresponding AU so to keep it within reach of as many Australian drivers as possible, Ford have had to cut back on some of the features.
The average family with 2.5 kids and a dog who are seriously looking at the Falcon will not be all that interested in paying an extra couple of hundred dollars for darkened headlight inserts.
