Much (almost too much) has been made of the 6 speed & diff ratio switch for BA Mk2.
240kW XR6T with 3:73,
260kW XR8 with 3:46,
and (I presume) 290kW with 3:73 for FPV's...
Was reading www.goauto.com this morning and was wondering if anyone else had noticed.
SV6 190kW with new D173 Aisin 6 speed & 3.83 diff (up from 3.08 diff in VYII)
SV8/SS 250kW with T56 6 speed and 3.73 diff (up from 3.46 in VYII)
So regardless of the performance gains the Falcon makes, we had still better prepare ourselves for the fact that the straight line speed tests we all go apeshit over when they appear in Wheels & Motor etc... will stay in favour of the lighter and better geared Commodore...

Big deal, Commodore is faster stock. Nothing a little backyard 'massaging' can't fix
BA is still a better car. Or, BAII should I say.
And you are saying this without driving it or without experiencing it? Interesting insight you have.

45,000km service coming up - and i'll be asking for a sizable list of fixes:
* Gearbox (3rd time)
* Steering click (5th time)
* Brake Shudder (2nd time, and has the applied "Fix")
* etc...

I bow to your superior wisdom Steffo. How could I have been so blind...

How interesting people on this forum are. Its a measly face lift with a new V6. Big deal.. the car its still based off (1997 VT) is nothing to BA. Not only that, the "alloytec190" is nothing special. Not technologically better then Barra182, makes 8kW more power (DEAR GOD NO, 8 WHOLE KILOWATTS TO COMPETE WITH! WHATEVER WILL WE DO!>).. and it makes 40Nm less torque. Such a great innovation that engine is!
This is coming from someone who used to eternally make fun of BA for being slow. I've changed my world of view, and it seems the whole forum has to.. to the way I used to think. Funny that...

First sentence:
And of course you can't 'massage' an LS1 can you? Basic fact is exhaust and LS1 edit on the 250 is going to get you 280+kW without trying.
Second sentence:
Those of us with blue blood agree, but in a competitive world this isn't evryone's view.

Yes, you can modify an LS1 too. However, are cars purchased simply with racing in mind? If I were doing that.. I wouldn't be looking at a BAII or a VZ. For what its intention is, BA is excellent.
Yes, you can get 280kW+ from a 250kW LS1 without really trying, but you can do that with an XR6 Turbo too. And when it comes to modifications, it really depends on what extent people are willing to go to. Some would go much farther then others would.
Which brings you back to the original point Steffo, in stock form in a straight line speed test the new commodore will win. That was JR's point, we all know cars can be modded.

Steffo, do you EVER get the point of someone is trying to say, or do you just rub the point on the top of your head and mouth off before you engage your brain as a way of life???
Apart from the fact that you've entirely discounted gearing and the weight differential between the Commodore and the Falcon (both severely in the Commodore's favour BTW) in your own misguided answer, you have COMPLETELY missed the ENTIRE point of the post.
When both cars a released, motoring publications will do back to back testing - as is their job - In a straight line over the quarter mile, where the VZ Commodore WILL beat the BA Falcon Mk2 due to lighter weight and superior gearing.
REGARDLESS of the fact that BA is a better car, this will be the ONLY fact many on these forums will get out of these tests and we will endure DAYS and WEEKS of moaning about it - just as we did when BA vs VY was new.
I was telling people they should prepare for it to happen all over again. How silly of me to overlook the mitigating factor of your mere presence in the conversation to totally overcome this major topic before it even begins.
Now give yourself an uppercut and go stand in the corner where you belong!
