BA XR8 on sale in "The Gong"
I don't know if it's one of the first ,but I've just been down to inspect a phantom XR8 on sale at one of the local Ford dealerships(Ron Bratton) here in Wollongong. All I can say is that it is one sinister looking piece of automobilia and has a great presence even standing still.Mate, the quad cam donk truely is a snug fit,(width wise anyway) but is a very tidy installation and I can defintely tell you the power bulge is a requirement and not just for looks as the the motor does seem to sit up high so naturally the plenum sits higher, fitting snug under the bulge.
Asked the salesman to kick it over, suprisingly he readily agreed, gotta say that standing there with the bonnet open it is a very smooth sounding donk. The one drawback being that the sound from the tailpipe was quite muted, although the salesman assured me that it undergoes quite a personality change and sings a completely different song when you "get up it",lets hope Ford haven't done a Holden with their V8 sounds.Oh yeah and any changes to the look and shape of the power bulge are barely discernable and certainly don't detract at all from what is over all a very impressive bit of kit.Despite my preconceptions about the phantom colour, IMO it gives the car a more intimidating look and will age well like the wild violet of old.Just out of interest I asked the sales man about Fords anwer to the SV8 and when we might see it,amazingly he said"it's here" and pointed me to a kitted black XT V8 telling me that it is called the "XT sport "and that the quoted power figure was 220kw,when told that the power figure was 230kw he just stood there dumbfounded. If this is to be Fords answer it was a smart looking machine, quite a sleeper.
Finally, something of interest in the local paper. They ran a story saying,Falcon sales are booming in the Illawarra with sales up 62.5% in Nov compared to the Commodore 16.6%and it just gets better with state figures showing the Falc up 64.3% to Commodore2.3% and Nationally Falc up 30.7% to Commodore up 7.3% ,the tide is possibly turning quicker than I thought.
Going down to the dealership tommorrow to get some pics should have them on here for all to see by tommorrow night.
