I knew my EA was chewing through fuel but this is just getting rediculous. I filled up with 63ltrs of Mobil 8000 last Thursday at a whopping price of 98cpl. The purpose of this was to test how much I got out of a full tank cause I usually only ever keep it half full (so the car's lighter). Anyway, this morning I found myself back at the petrol station with a grand total of 369.8kms on the clock. I estimate I had around 5-8ltrs left in the tank (cause I ran it right down to get every last km out of it). Now, I'm not sure how all you guys go for fuel consumption but in my opinion, this is just shithouse! BTW, this was 'city' driving with about 3 drag races on Sunday.

What the hell is going on here? Will a simple tune-up increase fuel economy? A fair while ago I had the timing adjusted while on the dyno to suit 98RON fuel. Could it be that the timing has gone out of whack or something?

That is bad, eehh 17L/100km i think it works out to be. I wouldnt be suprised if my car is about that as well, seems to be worse since i have added the larger exhaust.

It all depends on how you drive. When I drive around wearing lead shoes my trip computer says I have about 380km in a full tank. But i've been trying to drive more economically lately and i'm getting more than 450km out of a tank. So its not uncommon for your fuel consumption to be the way it is.
However, the state of tune of your car will also greatly affect your fuel consumption

do you have central EFI ?

the multipoint conversion might just be worth it as its much better on fuel.

I guess my car isnt so ecconomical mostly because of my driving habits. I drive mostly 1st gear to 5th gear, skipping the gears in between. Unless of course i want to floor it all the way, then its top in 1st, and top in 2nd etc.

SPHELL, I get around 380-400kms to a tank if I drive it nice, without drags. I had a fuel usage test and it revealed it is running 11-15% rich, way tooooooo much. I was told 1-5% is ok and normal for an EA/ED/ED falcon. Mine is also CFI. I was told it could be one of the following:
- MAP sensor
- Oxygen sensor
- Thermostat

I have changed the thermostat and did not notice much change. Might change the map and oxygen sensor soon and see how it goes.

My car chews about 17L per 100 by the trip computer. About the same as that. No problem, its simply how you drive.

Yup, mine is shithouse as well. I wish it wasn't. Amazing how fuel prices highllight this fact.

Again be careful with the clog (esp. autos) and you can get real benefits though. Like a 350-400 km tank suddenly stretches another 100 km.

Still weighing up the gas conversion though.
