XR8 wins the review, but whats with their crappy times, and trap times that reflect 13sec passes. Kinda gutted to see the same crappy mid 14s from the XR8, but they did bad in the SS to, so its probably poor driving. Great to see the XR8 win the review though. BAII = 1. VZ = 0.
Its all about the overall package and thats where the Ford wins.
Yep, Ford is the overall better car. Just as it has been since BA hit the showroom floors in 2002.
1797kg for the new XR8... 2kg up on the BA1. VZ SS is 1654kg. 143kg advantage, and throw in the 3.73 gears. BAII XR8 & GT should have got 3.73s like the XR6 Turbo and F6 Typhoon.
Just read the story on the HSV models {Wheels mag} there cars are doing 13.5s over the 400 & 5.2,0 to100 by "dingbat" motoring jurnos, thats bloody impressive, I hope the MK2 GT is gonna be a lot faster than the mk1, or we'll be getting sand well & truely kicked in our faces!!! It dosen't matter how good the GTs are, in the performance car class, it's those sort of times that count for a lot...IMO

Wouldn't you love to say that about your car?You loosers
Interesting, the 285kW 510Nm VYII Clubsport R8 did a best of 13.56 with Motor, and 5.3 to 100km/h. I doubt the LS2 car is AS FAST as the old 285 LS1's. Motor will probably get 13.3 - 13.2s from them, and better drivers then them in real life.. 13.0 - 12.9s?
All our cars come on narrow tyres though.. 245s on GTs and GTSs? The 1996 Chevy Impala SS - with a whopping 260hp (194kW) of power.. had 255s on it. FPV seems to think 245s are adequate for a 290kW performance car.. and same token for HSV and its 300kW GTS (and 297kW Z-Series). Z06 had 295s on the back (18x10.5) wheels with 302kW.. and the Cobra has 275s all-round on its 17x9s with 291kW. At least 265s would be nice on FPVs and HSVs, IMO, and would make a difference to traction. Other then that, both Ford and Holden's current products are kicking some ass.. 182 and 175kW family base models.. 220 and 235kW V8 base models.. 250 and 240kW 'budget' performance cars (XR6 Turbo and SV8)... 290kW and 297kW at the top (GT and Clubsport R8)... and all for over double cheaper then the equivalent Euro cars.. ($60k GT and $70k R8... compared to $200k for an M5 etc).
These magazine's are so funny and biased toward's both manufacturer's, they will type what ever sell's their dribble, I bet that if we look back a few yr's and find some old mag's from the same publisher, I bet we will find some qtr mile time's and 0-100klm time's that are just the same if not better than what they got from the BA II and VZ, They are so full of shit, one week Ford will be the better vehicle the next week the Holden will.

Dont forget that the press cars are all low k examples, and the quad cams dont loosen up until at least 10,000 k's.Those times dont do these cars justice, they should test higher k examples
From what I can recall, Wheels do acceleration tests with a passenger and a full tank of fuel. Something like that anyway. It would explain why their times are slow.
