Ball of snakes

Anyone heard of snakes balling up in water? Setting around on the computer today I just happened to look out the windows and saw a commotion in our pond. At first I thought it was fish, but after 10 or 15 minutes it seemed to get worse. I went out to see what was going on and saw it was a huge ball of snakes! Enough snakes to make waves and make me nervous. I couldn't get close enough to tell what kind they were, but I don't think they were water moccasins. Next time I'll take my 1100 Remington in case they are moccasins. I can send 5 their way real quick.

Re: Ball of snakes

I couldn't tell how many but at least dozens. Just got off the phone with my step dad who lives on the property joining me, he said he's saw them the other day and looked to him like several different species. He shot at them with a 22 mag (I have to laugh) and they spread out everywhere.

Re: Ball of snakes

Probably fighting over territory, but yes, very weird to get more then two or three fighting at once.

Try to get a pic if it happens again, before you shoot em.

I'd go with a 12 gauge, with bird shot and turkey choke on it.

Re: Ball of snakes

Never seen or heard of that before over here . Fortunately the only venomous British snake is the Adder which can be found all over the UK and is also the only Scottish native snake. There are only 3 types of British snakes , thank f*** after watching this !!!!

Re: Ball of snakes

I'm pretty sure those are garter snakes. Looks a lot like what I saw in the pond.
