I watched 7 news tonight and here in Victoria and Bracksy and the finance minister have banned pollies from having taxpayer funded sports cars.
Items on the banned list:
5 Spoke Alloy Wheels
Spoilers.
Cars that are not allowed:
Falcon XR6
Commodore S
Camry Sportivo
Magna Sports/VRX
30 of the 120 Pollies with taxpayer funded cars drive cars on the banned list above.
However they have been informed that the are allowed either a Ford Fairmont or Holden Berlina.
Now this has been presented to the public as reducing a waste of taxpayer monies however:
XR6 N/A Auto $39455
Fairmont 182 $42450 Both new pricing inc June 1 price rise
and
Commodore S $38160
Berlina $41290 (From holden web site)
So, the 30 of the 120 that drive these expensive "sports" models are actually saving taxpayer money by driving the sports models rather than the more expensive luxury models.
I'm not sure about parts being cheaper, the XR is a "low series" vehicle and the Fairmont "high series"
The engine is exactly the same, mechanical parts wise they're almost identical.
Ford gives the same fuel consumption figures for all the Barra 182 engines. However the XT/Futura/Fairmont have a 3.23 Diff and the XR6 and Fairmont Ghia have a 3.45 diff
Give them sports cars..
Then they can get pinned by speed cameras while paying tolls on Citylink , lose their licence , and then suffer the indignity waiting on the station platform for one of those ace Victorian public transport trains that are always late , which will all soon disappear due to poor management and no funds.
