was talking to a guy in the know at the local ford dealership the other day and we were having a bit of a chat about barra. I thought it was a good oppotunity to ask about the engines. One thing that i was told is that the standard forte 6 cyl (DOHC I6) will have 180kw!

now correct me if im wrong, but isnt that more than the current xr6???

also (confirming what we all reckon) the turbo xr is supposed to be a real weapon. They actually have detuned it because it was making too much power, so it will be a fantastic car to modify...

bring on barra! its all looking too good to be true!

While i wouldn't mind Ford making the base engine as 180kw i don't think it will happen. I'm guessing more in the lines of 165kw-168kw for the base engine and XR6's will have the 180kw and perhaps the Turbo will be anyones guess. :s6:

Good point raising this topic though, as Ford have kept 157kw baseline engine since 1994. As i've mentioned the 157kw was a rocket back then compared to others, but now since we have 163kw magna's it seems it's in line with the pack.

175 KW is ok for the base model car , as long as they improve fuel consumption , overwise forget it

Speaking of the Magna. I had a 3.5L Magna from Budget for 2 days last week. I drove down to Batemans Bay and then back up to Sydney, a total of about 800km. I was quite surprised by the power, it seemed to jump of the line really well and had a decent amount of power throughout the rev range. Quite a smooth revver too. The only things I hated was the body roll, understeers too easy and general lack of grip. Average fuel consumption was 9.3L per 100km according to the trip computer.

Back to BA Falcon. A power output of no more than 170kw IMO.

guys, keep in mind that Barra WILL be a heavier car, so it will need more power to keep the same performance figures.

yeah RATT same here, I still can't forget about that rental verada I drove once before. it was a rocket that uses no petrol at all. I don't think it's faster than forte or commodore but it was a real nice car to drive.
When will they give us some real data about the barra?

Stick a K & N Racing air filter in it, that will increase the kilowatts to around 163-168

Cost around $140, pretty cheap horsepower
