The Mighty XE

After driving the folks Falcon SR for a bit, I've come to realise how crappy the Dunlop Monzas that come with it are (squealing, no grip etc.) That Choice magazine test a few weeks back confirmed this with the Monzas coming last if I remember correctly.

I sincerely hope Barra gets better boots, don't Commodores come with Bridgestone RE92's standard, they rated a lot higher in the Choice test.

What I'm getting at is that shoddy tyres could quite easily let down the Barra package and mask the handling ability etc. to a degree that it might lose comparos.... or aren't the Dunlops as bad as I think?

I say put the Goodyear Eagle GA's back on! They are actually half decent standard tyres!

Have agree there out of the 3 OEM tyres the Good Year Eagle GA's suite the falcons best. Perhaps things might change when the new blade IRS is fitted to the Barra.

A mate of mine had a set of RE92's on his EL and they were no better than the Dunlop Monza's on my EF. Both were very very dodgy.
I remember on my EF in the wet it would slid out in 3rd gear. Was kinda fun in a way.

I know what you mean Strider... while I was learning to drive in mums EF, I span out in the wet while doing a U-turn!! After that, I just made it enjoyable... hehe had lots of fun in MY EF

Dunlop Monza are crappy for sure - especially after you are accostomed to performance tyres - but for 90% of "drivers" who buy a new Ford any better tyre would be a waste anyway. The Monzas will stack up against the RE92s any day. Eagles are a little better for sure on the standard size rims that come with the car. I quess when it comes down to it the bean counters will have the final say what tyres go on the "barra". Plenty of otherwise good cars have been stuffed at the death by the beancounters!!!

Oh I forgot to mention Choice magazine doesn't seem to carry the credo it once had - their methods of testing and comparing anything are dodgy, and have been for a couple years now it seems to me.

wonder if we will ever see directional tyres standard on base model falcons? I reckon a decent set of treads is a huge step in the positive direction for safety...

Yeah, I've got those crappy Monza 200Rs on my XR6, which came standard (215/55R16). aren't they supposed to be Bathursts with 225/50R16s as standard?? Anyways, will change to Michelin MXF Sports soon in the 225 size, because I just hate the 200Rs....no grip at all!!

The tyres on my car are Bridgestone Turanza ER30. They are a pretty good tyre. They come standard with the 9C1 Police pack and are 225/60 VR15.

I think they do a pretty good job as an OEM tyre, considering the power that is going to the wheels and the squat of the IRS.

So yeah, Bridgies are better!
