I'd just like to know the major differeces between the Barra220 and the Boss motors, besides the SOHC 3v and DOHC 4v heads. Do they share the same block, manifold etc? What is different aside from heads/cams.
I believe the Barra 220 is a crate engine from Canada, nearly identical to the 3V Triton, but tuned for our conditions. All the 5.4 blocks i believe are the same, but the plenum set up is different on the barra220 compared to the 260/290.
The main differences between the Boss 260 and Boss 290 is, the crank, pistons and rods are balanced and matched to each individual engine, the c/r of the 290 is 10.5:1 instead of 10:1, stainless steel valves in the 290, higher lift cams 13mm lift on the inlet compared to 10mm, 12mm lift on the exhaust compared to 10mm, Hollow cams on the 290,
Hope this helps you steffo
Basically everything above the block is different, from the bottom of the heads up. Bottom end is basically the same except they are balanced in the Boss and the GT has different pistons. Timing chains and front cover would be different too. 220 also has VCT.
Hmm, they're not to similar. Shame there's almost no aftermarket for the Barra220 and focus is 100% on the Boss motors. About the only thing I've ever seen commercially available for the Barra220 is an exhaust system.

I'm sure we''l see a lot of aftermarket parts coming from the states soon as the new F series uses the same engine.
I'd say most aftermarket mods are interchangable between the two, eg underdrive pullies etc.
I was thinking more bigger stuff.. like the CAPA Blower kits. Seems the only way to get some big power from a Barra is either swap it for a Boss, turn it into a Boss, or import a Mustang turbo kit from America and hack it in to fit. Shame there's nothing local.

I would think a capa kit would be easily bolt up to a 220 Barra, and being forced induction it would respond rather nicely without too much modifications
