Motorcycle champ Sheene dies
March 10, 2003

BARRY Sheene, Britain's 500cc motorcycle world champion in 1976 and 1977, died today of cancer.

An Australian resident for many years, Sheene, aged 52, died in hospital on Queensland's Gold Coast about 2pm (AEDT).

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and children, daughter Sidonie, 18, and son Freddie, 14.

A pirvate family funeral will be held later this week.

Started getting Cycle World and Motorcycle magazines in 5th grade, 1976 and waited every month during the various race seasons to see what happened. I could'nt figure out why Kenny Roberts didn't win every race. I know why now a days.

There is a nice little article in this month's Cycle World on Mr. Sheene. It's always a shame when the great ones pass.

Question: Is the former Mrs. Roger DeCoster, Sheenes wife Stephanie? Cycle World had a picture and made some mysterious comment about it.

He wasn't a bad driver either. I remember when he was driving an EL GT around Mallala at about 6am, and he was hanging it sideways around every corner
