Been offered to help Ford in production lines...

Hey guys,

Just thought id mention that because i'm a relative of a manager at the Ford plant in Broadmeadows i've been asked to assist in the production of BA's in October, November and December due to the release of a brand new model.

From what I know, only relatives are allowed to help (why? wouldn't you recruit the most TALENTED/SKILLED people to help?) because the normal production line workers don't want to work overtime.

I'd be working in the plastics department as my Uncle works in this area, and so did my Auntie before she quit a couple of years ago..

It'll be cool to see the BA's up close and personal.

Oh, and cuz my uncle works for Ford he got to have a Fairmont Ghia for a few days. He was told that he wasn't to leave the car in public places, even though he has a tarp to cover the interior.

Have to say... oh my god what a solid looking car it is.. Even inside, the ride is soo smooth, and powerful.. Interior is impressive but not really THAT big of a deal considering the AU interior wasn't all that bad to begin with..

Oh forgot to say,

my Uncle, not the one that works at Ford, thrashed the absolute shit out of it, and got it too 180k's (on country roads) in the time it takes my EA to get to 100k's!!! LOL..

No disrespect antigravity but have you worked on a car production line before?

This raises some real concerns about quality if Ford are utilising non-skilled labour to make up for lack of resources.

I hope you're being payed well at least :)

Antigravity, unfortunately its stories like yours".......thrashed the absolute shit out of it, and got it too 180k's (on country roads).........." that stuffed it up totally for other employees at Ford during the launch of AU and could even jeopodise the Barra drives.
Ford management are good enough to offer all employees the opportunity to drive these new vehicles only to have them abused by idiots like "your uncle (that doesnt even work at ford)"

If I was Geoff, hearing this sort of comment I'd be pretty tempted to cancel all FEU drives.

Sorry others for ranting, but this really pisses me off.

I can understand where your coming from, but I'm not my uncle, so don't think that I would do the same. What I found amusing, was not that he drove it fast, but that it accelerated twice as fast as my crappy EA..

Ultimately it's up to my uncle (the one that works at Ford) to decide whether this kind of act is allowable, considering Ford let HIM drive the car. It's not like he (my non-ford uncle) was driving it around at 180k's for more than a couple of seconds, he just wanted to know what it could do. I'm not saying that this is alright, I actually think it's kind of stupid, but to attack me for mentioning it is a little unfair.

Is this for real? Are the unions making them do this for some reason?

Sounds wierd to begin with. Quality issues anyone?

Ahhhh, Ford dont have a plastics department, they used to, but its now owned by Venture Industries, and is in fact Fords worst supplier. So to say you'd be working for Ford is incorrect.

Don't worry about Quality issues with new cars, Ford are about the only company that now how to iron out issues prior to production...

This information about the plastics department indeed could be incorrect due to the fact that my mum told me this.

I wouldn't call it an actual job, nor do I see myself working at ford, but more of a helper.

I totally agree with the quality issues that u guys have raised (look at my first post), when I was told by my mum, who was informed by her sister (who used to work at ford, and husband still does) I also thought it sounded weird that they would get helpers without any skills and/or experience.

I'm not assured of a spot as of yet, but my uncle is going to put my name on a list, and then people are selected from that list to help on the lines (from what I know).

Like I said, only relatives of people who work at Ford are offered this opportunity (don't ask me why, and as before I might be wrong as this is what my mum told me, relaying information from my aunt.)

So yeah, correct me if i'm wrong, and I'll get the dates in which people will be helping if that is any help into finding out what the hell is going on at Ford.

The reason I mentioned this in the first place is out of curiousity, and whether anyone else has done this. I'm willing to do it, because it's supposedly deccent money, and I get to see the Barra up close..
