...And it Begins

Ive started this thread on my car so i can get help where required and to give updates on progress. It is also my intension to document and photograph my work for display here.

So to begin;
Went to Bursons today and got quoted $90 for the Gasket kit for EB falcon, also got quoted $120 for an AU gasket kit. The thing is, the guy said the AU gasket is available on its own, but doesnt come with "Shimmy" What is this and do i need it? I know i could get away with only the regular Gasket kit but i figure it might be worth putting the AU one on, bearing in mind im intending on selling the car.

Also, should my head be warped or corroded, how much could i expect to pay to have it made good, or is it worth getting another head, maybe a EF one from someone like, i dont know, Sunny.

Have organised a free Pressure check or radiator to see if there are leaks and if so where, and plan on doing a compression test to see where the blown hole is.

Anyways more updates soon. Mods, i know this looks like a tech thread but it isnt entirely, i ask that it be kept in the E-series folder.

Re: ...And it Begins

Not much point getting another head, it might be just as warped. Just get it machined, it shouldn't cost much.

Re: ...And it Begins

As a rule of thumb, the head should always be machined incase of slight warp-age..

So you've decided to fix your EB instead of retiring it?

Re: ...And it Begins

costs generally about 45bux just for a shave, for them to shave it they have to clean it so they'll be able to tell if the head is majorly corroded or cracked.

When i did the head gasket on my ef fairmont, it cost me $160. $50 for the gasket kit and AU bolts, $110 to machine the head and get it x-rayed and crack tested. I know a bloke that distributes all things for EF/EL falcons cheaply
