Best of luck to our Servicemen/women
Having an uncle in the Army, an uncle in the Air Force and a young cousin in the Navy, I’ve been very interested in the events leading up to the coming conflict.
My Navy cousin has already done 1˝ deployments to the gulf (came home sick half way through the second), and related to me the freakiness of the situation the last time he was here.
I’d like to say at this point that I am a supporter of this war, and blame both Bill Clinton and the UN for its occurrence. Had the USA shown any true political leadership in the foreign policy arena during Bill’s 8 year tenure, Saddam would already be disarmed or gone, and we wouldn’t have secret commercial hand-shake deals with the French, Germans and Russians dictating UN policy.
But I digress.
I know that at least one forum member – Jamie’s XR6 – is leaving in the next few weeks with the Navy for the Gulf. Possibly other members are already there, or you know of family and/or friends that are going or have gone.
To those people in particular, and all our servicemen and servicewomen in general, I’d like to wish you good luck, safe passage, and Godspeed for your deployment and journey home.
I’d like to join those that have said regardless of your views on the policy that has brought us to this point, the men and women who make up our armed forces, and who are currently going into harms’ way, both need and deserve our support.
Again, best wishes to them all.
