Better be a good sales and marketing job
Now I know we are all excited about the BA and rightly so. But why is the AU so bad. It never was. I've had the AU XR8 at work (changeover every 40k) since they came out, and apart from a straightline acceleration disadvantage over the Commodore SS, the Falcon was far and away a much better car point to point. As you may have guessed my job involves driving these things far beyond normal. The point is the AU was pitched at the wrong crowd. If Ford marketing really thought that guys who buy Fairmonts all wear Tag Heur watches , then they are really off the mark. The AU is a bloody good car. The BA is obviously better. The trick is to make sure everyone knows that. If they are going to show Falcons parked out the front of art galleries then they lose! If they're going to show queer couples drinking latte's then jumping into a Falcon and roarung up some European street, they lose. But if they jump into a GT (the original font thanks) and see a cartoon of the Super Roo roaring passed, well they win. If people are reminded that the Falcon is really a Superbird, then they win again!! Get it right and do a smoke and mirrors trick that Holden have done for the past five years!
