I recommend going out and buying the new MOTOR mag. BFYB is a good read this year - unfortunatley no Ford contenders (except the Fiesta) as no new models.
The Lancer Evolution VIII was the deserved winner, coming in at $61,990. It did a 0-100 of 5.37 and 400m of 13.84. It also got the second fastest lap time ever around Winton Raceway (in BFYB) beaten only by this years BMW M3 CSL (which costs $210,000 and wears semi racing slicks).
Interestingly the best times they could manage out of the SS (on a cold day) were a 0-100 of 6.48secs and 400m of 14.50 secs which is slower than most XR8 times I have ever seen. Maybe they didnt get a "warmed" up press car this year...

Yeah but the lap time plays a significant part. Although a fine beast I doubt the T3 could pull a 1:10 lap around Winton which is very a tight slow track. But I get your point - those times for the EVO 8 were also based on a 7000rpm launch so not really real world times - motor explained it by saying that the times were "achievable" if not particularily realsitic in day to day driving.
I thought the Peugot GTi180 was quite quick considering what it is.

Sorry - BFYB baiscally includes a road loop then a track run. 0-100, 0-400 and fastest lap around Winton are all taken into account along with purchase price.

Evo8 should be faster then 13.8... Wheels did 13.6 @ 166km/h when they compared it to the HSV SlowSport R8 and Mazda RX-8.. and Wheels are usually slower then Motor...
On BFYB all the vehicles tested are either the winner from prev year or new model released this year.
All the cars are tested at the same time on the same tracks and therefore are tested as equally as possible.
Just because car X did better on another track on another day it does not get any advantage.
Also if the test car does not finish due to any problem (HSV R8) then it is disqualified.
I think they did a pretty good job and I especially liked the "pussy" poster.
