Bike lanes and joggers

How often do you see cyclists in bike lanes. There must a couple of million acres of expensive road set aside for cyclists who never use them, which is hardly surprising as they start suddenly and end a while later and don't really go anywhere.

And joggers who insist on running on the road when there is a perfectly good footpath, usually in peak hour and/or the dark.

When i use to go for a run doing the City to Surf track on a sunday morning i always use the foot path. Around the block at home i tend to run on the road.

I hate it when joggers use the roads when there are foot paths made for them everywhere, if you are travelling at 80ks trying to miss a guy joging down a main street it makes me mad cos if i hit him its my fault.

I used to cycle a lot and in many cases you end up with no real choice but to use the road as many cyle lanes/footpaths are in poor condition and/or badly designed/located etc. - also keep in mind that many cyclists are also taxpayers and motorists so do pay rego etc. - I agree entirely though that many cyclists display terrible road sense and attitude and should be held just as accountable for obeying road rules as motorists.

You don't pay rego but you are liable for all the fines that a car driver is up for. Some things like speeding are obvisuly N/A unless you are bloody quick.

I don't think someone using an environmentally sound, efficient and healthy mode of transport that does zero damage to the road should be required to pay for said damage.

I dunno mate, I found everytime I ride my bike I seem to fart alot more that I would driving the car. I also have alot more fun on the footpath than the road, nothing like ridding head on into oncomming pedestrians!

But it seems to me that bike rides on the road are more o f a hazard than a benefit!

Well, they may do zero damage to the road surface..but how many people hit the cyclists or have accidents trying to avoid them?? I have come damned close before on multi lane roads at night where there are service roads and in some cases bike paths that the idiots dont want to use. No rego = no TAC so the car owner is paying for all of it. Want to use the roads?? pay for it
