From my mate who is still working in Munich at BMW:
>>the 760 doesn't just have 400 horses, it has 445!!!!! bmw's most powerful engine at the moment!!! with 600Nm!!!
Maybe your friend meant 600Nm of torque? This engine is a 6L V12 from memory.

It's true.. it's a single seater, 3 litre n/a v10, weighs less than 600 kg... price over 100 million. If you wanna see one, get yourself some tickets to next year's Melbourne F1 GP

I thought that F1 displacements were 3.5L? Still, they make insane power. 600kw and the car weighs 600kg. Don't think school has changed too much since I left, so i guess that would make the power/weight ratio 1:1.

V10s with 3.0L displacements have been F1 law since 1995 I think..
From 1989 to the end of 94 you could have at most 3.5L .. not sure on the maximum amount of cylinders you could have - engines varied between v8 and v12. Schumacher won his first championship in a v8-powered Benneton (a Ford engine) in 1994.
Prior to that you had the turbos - 6 cylinder 1.5L twin turbos! I think the McLaren-Renault engine put out 1500hp at one stage. Imagine trying to drive that. Even with power like that, lap tims were slower than the atmo v10 powered ~850hp f1 cars of today.
