What has the build quality and luxury of a BMW 5 series, gets 50 miles per gallon, is RWD, goes 0-100 in 7.9 has awesome torque etc and will be out for about $40,000 brand new?

At least we should hope the 2.0L Diesel comes here, its faster than the petrol version!

Anyone in their right mind wouldnt buy a Smart, Prius or Insight after checking this out - if the decission is solely based on economy

I know someone who was after a really economic car. He looked at a prius, but then he ended up buying a Peugeot 307 diesel. I must say that after seeing it, i think he made the right choice. Looks fantastic inside and out, and he tells me that the fuel consumption is incredibally low even if its full of passengers + luggage.

Why are diesels always so much more fuel efficent and have more torque compared to the petrol engines?

BTW, how good would a M1 be? Think about it, M3 engine in a 1 series...kick arse!

And THANKGOD someone out thee makes a RWD small car..about bloody time!

I think there will be an M1 and M2 (coupe version) but i think the engine will be a worked 2.5L (not the 3.2) just to keep the M3 worthwhile - it will probably still be just as quick...
Try the 3.0 diesel from the X5? 150kw/500Nm :-) that would be nice!

I cant believe that the properties of diesel make make such a huge difference on there own.

because diesel motors require something like 18:1 compression to burn the fuel so the compression makes lots of torque.
