Booked for neg driving, ticket details wrong. I need advice
I got a neg driving ticket in the mail yesterday for a incedent where I rear ended a car over 3 months ago.
Iv paid the insurance excess because it was clearly my fault, police didnt attend the scene and no one got hurt but the ticket I got in the mail from the police had an incorrect drivers licence number for me written on it, however all of the other details are correct.
Has this ever happened to anyone else on the FF and what should I do about it? Can I just not pay it or do I have to elect to have it heard in court because the details are wrong? I am in NSW

I was at a mini cruise with another club one night at St Kilda Marina and a bloke that we were with got done for being in a no stopping zone, and wrote the wrong expiry date on the fine as compared to the expiry date on the sticker.

i think youll have to go to court for this one. they can send you a ticket going on evidence from insurers even though they werent there, provided there is actually evidence that you were driving neglegently (sp?). if not then you should be able to have it dismissed as there isnt any evidence that you were being stupid.

speak to a lawer who specialises in traffic law....
You may be able to beat it in court as there is no police witness to beat you down..... But then you may also lose...

Wait a tick - you were not interviewed by the police, nor did the police attend the scene ? That sounds a little off - I guess it would depend if it is a staturoty offense - but police can use discretion - I would have thought they would have to be witness to it in one way or another.

too bad about all the other details that are correct hey ?? The police may be able to withdraw the ticket and reissue another so never assume.
Perhaps you might write a letter as someone suggested .. you have nothing to lose.
I hate the fines that people get because an accident had to be reported due to insurance obligations .. especially when it's all been sorted out.

not at all .. but it's a tad stiff to issue it without interviewing the 'offender' Really, speak to a solicitor ASAP for proper advice... that you got it without beng interviewed may be a good point as it's not a camera fine or anything dodgey like that.
Re: Booked for neg driving, ticket details wrong. I need advice
I have since spoken to the officer who issued the ticket and says he issued it based upon the information contained in the self reporting accident report. That report was filled in by the person I collided with and he wouldnt give me a copy of it so I could see what it said.
I didnt tell him the licence # was wrong because I was scared of just what you said, him just writing out another ticket and sending it off again.

I hit a bloke up the ass a few months back, the dick called the cops the next day as he thought i wasnt going to pay for the repair even tho the smash repair was working on his car at 7:00am the next day and was told if i didnt pay they'd cop it. He rang the cops they rang me and i said i wasnt paying attention when he stopped to let a car out of a carpark WTF, to stop to let a car out of a carpark that he wasnt even going into. To make it short the coppa said pay the bill and its all sweet, pric bugged the cop's some more and got told to F***off. Bugged the smash repair and got told the same thing, even tried to get the insurance company involved ? after i payed the bill in cash.
