5.4 does not have a knock sensor so there will be no benifit in putting premium fuel in it. got to be a bonus in my books:s2:

That's a disadvantage. Why would you buy a V8 and run it on shitty unleaded.

This sounds a bit wrong to me. Somehow i think it will run better on the premium. Every car i have driven, as soon as u put it on premium it seems to run smoother. And also, how do u know it doesn't have a knock sencer??

With all that ethanol crap being unregulated used in std unleaded which mongrel in their right mind use it? Our premium unleaded has a low enough octane level the way it is.

I didnt think any of the new ford motors had knock sensors. cuz if i remember off newfalcon.com.au it said becuase they had the Dual VCT. Or something.

Straight from the horses mouth or Gordon ######. Not sure of his last name but he is head engineer in engine design. Here was up here in brissie wiht Dave Flint giving us (qld xr club)an intro on the new ba xr's. He said the 5.4 engine would not run any smoother or produce any more kw's on premuim fuel.

Maybe its just me (or the design of cars has changed), but I thought the whole point of running premium was because of the octane rating needed to run a certain compression ratio????

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm quite sure that the Ford acronym 'VCT' is for 'variable cam timing'???
As well, it would be 'dual VCT' especially in the case of the 6 cylinder, as they now are all twin cam designs.

Regarding the knock sensor, I find it difficult to comprehend the lack of one, especially on the 'Boss' engine which is supposed to be the performance variant.

Like others have stated, our fuel is of such a low standard, why would you risk killing a new engine by running it on unleaded.
It would only speed up internal damage by using such crap in it.

If the 260 kw figure was obtained on regular unleaded, then I'm mighty impressed.

I was certain such a high-tech engine would demand premium unleaded.

One of the reasons I chose my VX SS was the fact it could run on regular - this makes the XR8 quite attractive as well.

Can't wait to see it on the road (but alas I will for at least 6 months) :(
