Smile BP Mud Message

Hi all,

I work with BP-Ford and would firstly like to thank Raven for allowing me to post something I hope you’ll find interesting.

To celebrate BP-Ford’s WRC manufactures victory at the last rally of the season and coinciding with Marcus Gronholm’s retirement, we created something special - a 35 foot tall mud message emblazoned across some Welsh hillside near Sennybridge!

The mud message was created using turf we placed mud-side up to give the effect that a rally car had been let loose. The turf was a great, environmentally friendly alternative to actually ripping up the grass – one passerby commented “it looks like a rally car has pulled a load of donuts in a field...!”
We unveiled ‘WE DID IT!’ on November 30th, just in sight of the Halfway Stage of Rally GB. We’re pretty proud of the end result and would love to know what everyone here thinks.

Thanks,

Rachel

Re: BP Mud Message

Hi Rachel and congrats to the BP Ford team.

That looks impressive. The Focus looks quite small against the message.

Re: BP Mud Message

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback! It took us seven hours in total to create the effect - a lot of time was spent searching for the perfect location and bringing 150 square metres of turf with us. The car does look small in comparison to the message, which was just the eye-catching effect we wanted :)

Re: BP Mud Message

I would love to see more pic's of the BP-Ford teams cars etc and any cool photo's of the rally if you have any Rachel. I followed the WRC but mainly in front of the TV like most do

Such a shame Marcus didn't get the drivers title on his last rally but he did put up a good fight and earlier in the season it looked like he was running away with it.

Re: BP Mud Message

Hello,

Thanks for your comments - much appreciated! Thought I'd share a few images of the process to explain what exactly we did with those seven hours!

cool Re: BP Mud Message

So what is the material that you laid on the ground? Looks like sod turned upside-down. Is that a Land Rover or Land Cruiser for a tow vehicle? Just curious as I don't believe you have the American pickup thing going down under do you?

Excellent photos by the way!

Re: BP Mud Message

Loving those photo's thanks Rachel. The WRC Focus is a brilliant looking vehicle.
I'm hoping Ford will go further with the Focus and produced a road going version along the lines of the old Cosworth escorts and Sierra's.

The first post metions it was done in the Welsh hillsides (UK) so not down under and they used turf upside down
