BP Tech support

I have often seen mentioned in the the PULP discussions that BP Ultimate is the same as Optimax depending on where you live. BP has 2 refineries, one in Perth and one in Brissie. As I am in Adelaide I called the support line to ask them where ADL BP Ultimate was sourced from. He said mostly Perth but some could come out of Brisbane. I asked him about the Optimax/Ultimate "truth or myth". He just laughed an said no way! He said with with normal ULP you sure can get blends between companies depending on your location but never with the 98 RON stuff. He said that each company was very protective of their "special" fuel.

Re: BP Tech support

Tried calling Shell about the same question? Maybe they'd have a different answer.

That's true, but I too have seen the perpetuated myth that Optimax and Ultimate are one and the same fuel; usually reasoned that it comes from the company that has a refinery in that state. It's usually a contested issue, but I've yet to see a definitive answer.
