Lightbulb Bring back the Fairlane!

I think Ford should bring back the Fairlane:
  • Position it as a competitor to the Charger or Impala, could be an American sport sedan or family car depending on trim
  • Make the styling more boxy, less curvy than the Charger, less pointy in the front than an Impala. Make the deck longer, don't do stacked headlights like the 66-67 Fairlane or it may look too boxy and high up front like some of the Cadillacs (too Transormer-ish looking). Instead put quad-horizontal headlights (some of the earlier and later Fairlanes had this layout).
  • Make the overall length similar to the existing Mustang but instead of a long hood/short deck design with cramped rear seats, make the hood shorter, move the cabin forward, increase rear legroom and trunk space
  • Don't make it look like the new Taurus as it is too bulky looking and looks like you're driving a bath tub. Lower the belt line or sill line or whatever you call it
  • Don't make the dashboard layout like the new Taurus either because it would look out of place in a boxy Fairlane sedan. Maybe do away with the center console? Have the dash be one unibrow rather than the dual brow cockpit style of the Mustang and Taurus.
  • Since the hood is shorter just design it for a V6 at the most, no V8. The V6 has 300 horses already, with EcoBoost, more than enough
  • Make it RWD using the same basic chassis as the Mustang
  • Add torque vectoring or a torque biasing diff to help performance and winter traction
What do you think? Could there be a market for it? Would compete too much with the existing Taurus?

Re: Bring back the Fairlane!

I think anything is possible, it's more so about whether there is a market for it.

If enough people made a scuff about it, and ford found it, I sopose they would keep it in the way back of their mind, but IDK, cars now a days need to be gas savers, and the fairlane is a heavy metal car.

BTW: Welcome to the Forum, be sure to stop by our ROTM thread and place a vote for these fords that have had a lot of TLC put into them.
