I have always wondered why people from Brisbane use this term when describing their home town. Having been to both Las Vegas and Brisbane I can't see the connection. Las Vegas is interesting and worth visiting again, Brisbane is neither. Flame away!
I think it was originally a sarcastic stab from people down south at the big country town of Brisbane. For reasons best known to themselves, the term seems to have been adopted by some Brisbanites.
Just to defend Brisbane, it can be interesting sometimes!

Just like when I use to live in Townsville, or was that Clownsville, or then again I think it was Brownsville.....Doesn't matter now i live in Brisneyland.
I originally heard it from someone from sydney I think... I had a bit of a laugh about it (partly due to that ironic reason above) and started saying it..
