My brother went to fill his car up at the local servo yesterday and was told that they had a broken down 6 cyclinder Barra there earlier in the day - don't know what broke.
While he was chatting he said that there are some 30 Barra's cruzin' around the streets each week still doing development work.
He also told him that there was a special recovery team who were on stand-by for when such an event happens.
I don't know what worries me more, the fact that there is a break down team on stand-by for the Barra, or the fact that Ford are still doing reasearch on the car so close to its' release with the first new Barra's already built - i think the first one came off the production line last Wednesday.
Here hoping that it was only something stupid and not more of the same problem that have troubled the 6 for so many years.
I drive an EL with the 6 and things like head gasket leaks & failing coils are still a problem.
My guess is the barra they had brake down, has probably clocked up more than 500,000 km's which when we expect them to start having problems at around 200,000 i don't think there is a need to worry.

Thanks mate, that's what we need brchi17, a conspiracy to bring all the hard work and effort that Ford have put into this down.
For your reference all cars can break down, even new ones. My wife has a top of the line LandRover Freelander and that had and still does have issues right from the word go. Name me a car that doesn't have any?
The main reason there are prob so many barras on the road is to make sure that this doesnt happen to people who buy it. There isnt such a thing as too much testing, as the more testing that is done, the more potential problems and hazards that can be avoided.
Different people at ford have different roles, and may be testing the limits of a setup so that under normal use it will be ok
