eek Broooooom...

When I bought my car I was lucky enough for it to come come with a 2.5'' exhaust with two mufflers on it already, but I wasnt happy with how not loud enough it was so I took my car down the the Muff shop and got them to take out the back muffler leaving the centre one still in left with only one obviously. Is there anyone else who is running with this same kind of exhaust set-up or tried it, it made a big difference in sound but I dunno if many people could stand it for very long.

Also I were to get extractors in what way would it change performance and tone. Also what does NRMA say about extractors???

Re: Broooooom...

The rear muffler is actually a resonator, designed to stop the 'drone', most people leave the ressy in because without it, it gets annoying and induces headaches.
Extractors will give you a power increase but to what extent is anybody's guess, it may be from 5kw to 15kw, depending on how much you have to spend and what type you get.

Re: Broooooom...

oh crap, im having the resonator removed (its what the guy suggested). oh well, guess i can always get a new system if it gets too annoying. it'll only have one muffler once it's done.

extractors are one of those mods where everyone is expecting a certain amount of difference, which leaves them open to disappointment when they jump on the dyno. Do you have any other engine mods? And remember that just because a fact sheet says your engine model will put out x amount of kilowatts, it doesnt mean yours actually does!

Hopefully someone will reply with the same model and extractors installed, then you can get a better idea of what to expect.

Regarding NRMA, I'm with them and all engine mods are ok provided you check with them first (because there are limitations on size, brand etc etc), and as long as its nothing too huge you should be right - I dunno how you'd go insuring a supercharged vehicle on your P's! :p. But ALWAYS ask and notify them first - once the work is done, no matter what it is - even just alloys, the current policy document you have becomes invaild until you get a new one that includes the work done.

Re: Broooooom...

Hey Sadowsky5 get the rear resontator out I love the deep sound it makes.

And ya I got K&N Pod filter fed by large cold air induction.

Does NRMA not jack up the insurance cost when you make engine modifications, what do they say about pod filters and cold air induction. Does insurance go up with extractors???

Re: Broooooom...

curt,

when i asked about lowering and a new exhaust system i was not told there'd be any rise in costs, and if there is i'll be fighting it for sure!
